WES Governor embarks on peace dialogue

The Western Equatoria State’s Governor Alfred Futuyo, in a meeting on Wednesday with some traditional leaders in the state, resolved to hold a peace dialogue with the paramount chiefs and the elite of the State in a bid to promote peaceful coexistence among the communities.

The state authorities took the decision as a result of rumors on social media that there was possible breakout of communal violence between the Zande and the Balanda tribes in Tombura County, an allegation which created panic among the communities.

Speaking during the meeting, Governor Alfred Futuyo said he had invited the elders; from Tombura, Bangasu, Nvolo and Yambio, to find out possible root causes of the alleged inter-communal violence that might breakout among the two communities as claimed in the social media.

The peace dialogue meeting will focus on the unity of the communities in the state, according to the Governor, and for that reason he has invited all the paramount chiefs and the elite in the state to attend the dialogue. He said the meeting would also identify the social media writers whose writings might incite violence among the communities.

Governor Futuyo said to consolidate peace among the community of Western Equatoria State required collective effort from all the state citizens. He further revealed a plan to hold a conference that would bring together all the politicians of State to discuss ways of how the citizens of the state can live together in peace and harmony.  Church leaders and UN – agencies participated in the meeting.

 50 Young women in Nzara attends a two days conference- aims at promoting women participation in local governce and conflict resolution.

At least 50 young women in Nzara County have concluded a two days conference- aims at promoting women participation in local governance and conflict resolution in the State conducted by community Empowerment for rehabilitation and development.

Mr. Kaunda David the program manager of community Empowerment for rehabilitation and development said the training was initially designed to provide opportunity for young women to speak out on the core governance and peace building issues that are effecting women and give them chance to voice out their concern and increase their participation in decision making at all level of governance.

Mr. Kaunda however urged the 50 participants to excise the knowledge acquired in a bid to improve women’s participation in governance and peace building in the state.

 Some of the participants voiced out their expressions towards the two days conference, citing the new knowledge acquired has opened their minds in decision making processes and in reporting women’s issues to relevant authorities at a right time.

They also expressed their readiness to share the knowledge they have acquired over the two days with their fellow young women in the different localities.

Community Empowerment for rehabilitation and development is running a project title citizen engagement in governance and peace building in the State.
