Recycling is the process of collecting and processing materials that would otherwise be thrown away as trash and turning them into new products.
Speaking to locals in Kasokoso, Wakiso District, Moses Ategeka, Chairperson Uganda Plastic Manufacturers and Recycling Association, urged the public to embrace recycling to benefit the community, economy, and environment.
“Recycling is an important part of environmental protection because it reduces waste, conserves resources, and saves energy. By reprocessing waste materials, recycling minimizes the need for new raw materials and energy consumption, ultimately leading to a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions and a reduction in pollution.”
Ahead of the Environment Day, which happens on June 5, every year, Ategeka has engaged in a community environment awareness campaign in Greater Kampala.

He says recycling provides many benefits to our environment. “By recycling our materials, we create a healthier planet for ourselves and future generations.”
The environmentalist adds that, recycling is a process that contributes to the preservation of natural resources and environmental sustainability.
In particular, recycling offers an eco-friendly alternative to the rapid depletion of limited natural resources. “Reprocessing waste materials conserves energy and significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions. This creates a defense against global warming and climate change.”
Additionally, recycling decreases waste dumped into nature, helping control pollution in water, air, and soil. It also protects natural ecosystems and maintains biodiversity.
Ultimately, recycling contributes to the economy by reducing raw material needs and creating jobs. Conscious recycling choices are critical for leaving a livable world for future generations.
Correctly recycling plastic, therefore, is the main way to better protect nature, fauna and ourselves.
